Ukrainian President, Attending 79th UN General Assembly, Welcomes Adoption of Leaders' "Pact for the Future"
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in New York to take part in the events of the UN General Assembly's High-level Week.
According to an Ukrinform correspondent in New York, starting on Sunday, the President will have a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of states and international organisations, as well as heads of American companies, to discuss Ukraine's energy needs.
Today, on Monday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will speak at the Future Summit at the UN Headquarters, on Tuesday he will take part in the UN Security Council meeting on the Ukrainian issue, and on Wednesday he is expected to speak at the general debate in the UN General Assembly.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also welcomed the adoption of the Pact for the Future by the leaders of states, pointing out that a secure future is possible only if the Russian war is over.
‘Despite all the obstacles, including Russia's attempts to disrupt its adoption, the world has managed to unite around the vision of a just and secure future,’ he said.
According to the President, this future is possible only if the largest war in Europe since the Second World War is ended in accordance with the Formula for Peace, which is based on the goals and principles of the UN Charter, as well as the objective need for global security.
The day before, the UN General Assembly approved the main document of the Future Summit, the Future Pact, despite the opposition of Russia, whose representative tried to introduce amendments, threatening to refuse to support the consensus document.
