Following the detonation of the dam at Kahovska Hydro Power Plant by Russian forces, numerous villages and towns in the Kherson region have been submerged. However, not only humans but also animals have found themselves at risk.

Residents from flooded neighborhoods in Kherson are rescuing their own and neighboring animals trapped in the watery aftermath of the explosion at Kahovska Hydro Power Plant.  That's according to the President's Facebook.

Emotional images of animal rescues are being shared online by Ukrainians. As seen in the photos, the water has risen to knee-level in some private houses in Kherson. Several areas in Kherson Oblast are completely submerged, with over 1,800 houses affected, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Despite the danger, not all residents are evacuating from the city. Many are waiting for the water to recede while assisting both people and animals in need. Police and the State Emergency Service are also saving domesticated animals tied near flooded houses.

The dam destruction has also impacted the territory of the Lower Dnieper National Nature Park, where most of the islands have been flooded.

"With June 1 marking the start of the breeding season, a large number of birds have begun nesting. Animals, birds, old trees—everything is underwater. We will not be able to analyze the situation and draw conclusions about the environmental consequences until the flood recedes," park employees reported.

Unfortunately, approximately 300 animals have perished at the Novo Kakhovka Zoo. They could not be rescued in time.

In the occupied city of Novo Kakhovka in the Kherson region, the Russian terrorist army's detonation of Kahovska Hydro Power Plant resulted in the death of nearly 300 animals at Kazkova Dibrova Zoo. The park emphasized that they attempted to evacuate the animals, but the occupiers mined the park's territory. By the morning, when the staff arrived, the animals had already perished.

The Kazkova Dibrova Zoo posted about the incident on social media.

"Dibrova endured a horrifying winter without electricity and heating. Valentina took all the heat-loving animals home with her (over 60 animals). All the animals survived until spring and then returned to Dibrova.

Thank you for the financial support, UAnimals, the company /NFTMASTERS, and all the caring people who sent money for the animals' care.

Two Dibrova employees risked their lives every day under fire to feed and care for the animals. We salute Valentina and Vova!

We did everything we could to save the animals' lives, even in such a horrific situation.

Today, Kazkova Dibrova, the beloved recreational area for residents and visitors of Novo Kakhovka, was destroyed by the occupiers.

This is a tremendous tragedy, a terrible pain.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our plight. But we no longer need assistance. Let Kazkova Dibrova remain in our memories as a magical corner of our native city."
