US Allocates $200mn Military Aid Package to Ukraine
The United States is providing Ukraine with another $200 million in military aid.
This was reported by the US Department of Defence.
The US is providing the package as part of its presidential arms reduction authority, which means that the weapons will come to Ukraine directly from US army warehouses.
The aid package includes air defence equipment, HIMARS artillery ammunition, mortar shells and Javelin anti-tank missiles.
In addition, the Pentagon announced the allocation of about $1.5 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which provides for long-term contracts with arms manufacturers.
Both packages include ammunition for HIMARS, NASAMS and short- and medium-range air defence systems, RIM-7 air defence missiles, 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, 120mm mortar shells, and precision-guided aircraft munitions.
The list also includes Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems, TOW anti-tank guided missiles, electronic warfare equipment, small arms, explosives, secure communications systems, commercial satellite imagery services and spare parts.
‘This is the 20th USAI package from the Biden administration and the 62nd tranche of equipment to be provided to Ukraine from the US Department of Defence stockpile starting in August 2021,’ the Pentagon said.
The previous military aid package - worth $225 million - was announced by the United States on 11 July and included one Patriot air defence system.
As The Gaze previously reported, the Pentagon recently discovered errors in accounting calculations, which allowed it to find an additional $2 billion to help Ukraine.
