US Announces New Military Package for Ukraine: HIMARS Ammunition and Javelins Worth $275mn
The US Department of Defence on Wednesday announced a new military aid package worth $275 million to Ukraine, the Pentagon said.
The new US military aid package is provided under the Presidential Decision to Arms Reduction (PDA) programme, which provides weapons from US army stockpiles.
The package includes ammunition for HIMARS systems, 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, 60mm and 81mm mortar rounds, drones, Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems, and TOW anti-tank missiles.
In addition, Ukraine will receive small arms and ammunition, explosive munitions, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defence equipment, as well as spare parts and support equipment.
‘The United States will continue to work with about 50 Allies and partners through the Ukraine Defence Contact Group and related coalitions of forces and capabilities to meet Ukraine's immediate needs on the battlefield and to defend against Russian aggression,’ the Pentagon added.
Earlier, it also became known that US President Joe Biden approved the supply of anti-personnel mines to Ukraine, which could help strengthen the defence of Ukrainian forces against the offensive of Russian occupation forces.
The Biden administration additionally plans to send a request to Congress for new assistance for Ukraine for the 2025 fiscal year.
