US President Biden Announces $2.5 Billion in Security Assistance to Ukraine
US President Joe Biden has announced almost $2.5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, the White House reports on its website.
‘Today, I am proud to announce nearly $2.5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine as the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from Russian aggression,’ Biden was quoted as saying.
According to the president, this amount will provide Ukraine with an immediate influx of forces and equipment that it uses effectively on the battlefield, as well as long-term supplies of air defence, artillery and other critical weapons systems.
The statement noted that the Ministry of Defence has allocated all remaining USAI funds.
In addition, Biden instructed his administration to continue to provide Ukraine with as much assistance as possible as soon as possible, including the write-off of older US equipment, rapid delivery to the battlefield, and then the restoration of the US defence industrial base.
‘Under my leadership, the United States will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine's position in this war for the remainder of my term in office,’ the US president assured.
Earlier, White House spokesman John Kirby said that the package would include air defence systems for Ukraine.
