Venice Limits Tourist Groups to 25 People and Increases Fines to €500
On 1 August, a new rule for tourist groups came into force in Venice, Italy, according to which they cannot have more than 25 people. Violation of this rule will result in a fine of up to €500.
This was reported by Ilsussidiario.net.
The new rules are intended to reduce crowds in the historic centre of Venice, for which the huge tourist attraction is both a source of great profits and a source of problems.
Starting from 1 August, the size of tourist groups should not exceed 25 people, and guides are prohibited from using loudspeakers ‘for the peace of mind of local residents’. This rule will apply to the historic centre of Venice and the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello.
The requirement was supposed to come into effect in June, but was eventually postponed until early August.
Violations will result in fines ranging from €25 to €500.
In the spring of 2024, Venice experimentally introduced a one-day entry fee for peak days. The experiment lasted 29 days and is now on hold as the city analyses the results and decides whether to make it a permanent practice.
