White House Announces Extension of Ceasefire Agreement Between Israel and Lebanon

The agreement between Israel and Lebanon on a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah militants has been extended until 18 February. This was reported on the White House website.
‘The agreement between Lebanon and Israel, which the United States is monitoring, will remain in effect until 18 February 2025,’ the statement said.
The governments of Lebanon, Israel and the United States will begin negotiations on the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel on 7 October 2023.
Last year, in October, Israel launched a ground operation against Hezbollah militants supporting Hamas terrorists in southern Lebanon.
In November 2024, Lebanon and the Hezbollah paramilitary group agreed to a US proposal for a ceasefire with Israel, but expressed their reservations about its content.
On 27 November, then-U.S. President Joe Biden announced that Israel and Lebanon had reached a ceasefire agreement to end the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. According to the agreement, Hezbollah was to leave the border areas within 60 days - by 26 January - and Israel was to withdraw its troops from Lebanon in stages. In turn, the Lebanese army had to return to its positions in the areas bordering Israel.
As a reminder, as part of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas terrorists, Israel returned 4 more of its citizens from captivity by Palestinian militants. After 477 days in hostage, 4 female soldiers aged 19-20 returned to Israel.
