Zelenskyy and Trump Discuss Peace Plan, Air Defense

On July 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a “very important and useful” conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, marking America’s Independence Day and discussing urgent defense and peace issues amid intensifying Russian attacks, The Gaze reports.
“I congratulated President Trump and the entire American people on Independence Day,” Zelenskyy said. “We in Ukraine are grateful for all the support provided, which helps us save lives and preserve our independence.”
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine supports U.S. efforts to reach a just and sustainable peace with Russia. “A dignified peace deal is needed, and Ukraine supports American proposals,” he stated.
The two leaders discussed the recent surge in Russian aerial attacks and the broader situation on the front line. “President Trump is very well informed — I thank him for his attention to Ukraine,” Zelenskyy noted.
According to a source familiar with the call, it was described as a “good conversation,” Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported.
A key topic was Ukraine’s urgent need for enhanced air defense. “We agreed to work on increasing the protection of our skies,” said Zelenskyy. “We also agreed on a relevant meeting of our teams.”
The leaders discussed deeper cooperation in the defense industry, including potential joint production of weapons systems. “We are ready for direct projects with America and believe this is crucial for security, especially concerning drones and related technologies,” Zelenskyy said.
The conversation also covered mutual procurement, investment opportunities, and diplomatic coordination with the U.S. and international partners.
