Zelenskyy Arrives in Turkey for Talks on Reviving Peace Negotiations
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Ankara on Wednesday for a working visit aimed at advancing efforts to restart peace talks with Russia.
The Gaze reports this, referring to an announcement made by the Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate.
Zelenskyy is expected to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Complex in the afternoon, where the two leaders will discuss bilateral cooperation and review the latest developments in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
According to the Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate, the talks will focus on steps toward a ceasefire and a lasting resolution to the conflict, including mechanisms linked to the Istanbul negotiation track.
The visit opened with a solemn ceremony at Anıtkabir, where Zelenskyy paid tribute to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk – the founder of the modern Turkish Republic and a symbol of national sovereignty, reform, and resistance in the face of foreign domination.
For Ankara, foreign leaders’ visits to Atatürk’s mausoleum traditionally underscore respect for Turkish statehood and recognition of Atatürk’s historic role in shaping the country’s identity and secular foundations.
Zelenskyy’s trip coincides with a broader diplomatic push around potential peace avenues. U.S. media reported that President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is also expected to meet Zelenskyy in Turkey as Washington seeks ways to revive dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow.
A joint press conference by Zelenskyy and Erdoğan is scheduled following their talks in Ankara.
As The Gaze previously reported, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed his intention to speak with U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin about organizing a high-level summit in Istanbul focused on the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war.
