On the eve of the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska, late in the evening on August 11, the leaders of 26 EU countries adopted a joint statement in support of Ukraine, which Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán refused to sign.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to European Pravda.

Hungary refused to sign the EU leaders' statement in support of Ukraine ahead of the meeting between Trump and Putin.

“The statement by EU leaders on Ukraine was agreed on Monday evening by the heads of state and government of EU member states, with the exception of Hungary, which did not sign the document,” a senior EU official informed.

The document emphasizes that international borders should not be changed by force and that the Ukrainian people have the right to determine their own future.

The 26 EU countries also stressed that the path to peace cannot be determined without Ukraine and that meaningful negotiations are only possible after a ceasefire or a reduction in hostilities.

The European Union has confirmed in the statement its readiness to continue providing Ukraine with political, financial, economic, humanitarian, military, and diplomatic support, together with the US and other partners, as well as to maintain sanctions pressure on Russia.

Moreover, it has been reported that the EU and its member states are ready to increase their contribution to Ukraine's security guarantees and support its path toward European integration.

“The European Union emphasizes Ukraine's inalienable right to choose its own destiny and will continue to support Ukraine on its path to EU membership,” EU leaders declared.

At the end of the document, it is noted that Hungary did not join the statement.

As The Gaze reported earlier, on the night of August 10, leading European politicians — the leaders of six countries and the President of the European Commission — issued a joint statement addressed to the presidents of the United States and Russia ahead of the planned meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
