81st Venice Film Festival Starts in Italy
The 81st Venice Film Festival, which is one of the oldest film events in the world, started on the Italian island of Lido the day before.
It is reported by Live Venice.
The opening of the Venice Film Festival, which will last until 7 September, started with the screening of the film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice by 66-year-old Tim Burton. This is a 2024 American comedy fantasy horror film, which is a sequel to the 1988 film by the same director.
The jury of the film festival competition is headed by French actress Isabelle Huppert, 71. She appeared at the opening of the event wearing Balenciaga Haute Couture and Cartier jewellery.
The stars of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder, 52, Jenna Ortega, 21, and Monica Bellucci, 59, also appeared on the red carpet. The actresses' clothes echoed their images in the film.
Canadian and American actress Catherine O'Hara, 70, took to the red carpet in a leather dress by Oscar de la Renta and Cartier jewellery. She also played one of the roles in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Australian actress Cate Blanchett, 55, also took to the red carpet. She posed in an Armani Privé dress and Louis Vuitton jewellery.
Canadian actress Taylor Russell, 30, posed on the red carpet in a white couture dress by Chanel from 1993 and Tiffany & Co. Supermodel Claudia Schiffer wore the same dress in 1993.
On the opening day of the festival, 74-year-old American actress Sigourney Weaver received the event's main award, the Golden Lion, for her contribution to cinema. The Hollywood star is known from the films Alien and Aliens, Avatar, and Ghostbusters. She posed in a Chanel evening suit and held the award in her hands.
The opening of the film festival was also attended by 77-year-old poet and musician Patti Smith. Instead of the traditional red carpet dresses, she wore jeans, a white shirt and a jacket.
The Venice Film Festival, which is the oldest film festival in the world, was founded in 1932. In 2024, the event will be attended by Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julianne Moore, Kevin Costner, Joaquin Phoenix, and others.
