Australia Delivers First Tranche of Abrams Tanks to Ukraine

The Australian government has completed the delivery to Ukraine of the first tranche of M1A1 Abrams battle tanks, as agreed upon in October 2024.
The Gaze writes on this referring to the Australian Government Department of Defense.
In response to Ukraine's request, Australia is providing 49 Abrams tanks to strengthen its defense against Russian invasion. The defense department clarified that Ukraine has already received more than half of the promised tanks, and the delivery of the remaining combat vehicles will take place in the coming months.
This aid package, worth about $245 million, is part of a total of $1.5 billion in support that Australia has provided to Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
“These modified M1A1 Abrams tanks will deliver more firepower and more mobility to the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” said Minister for Defense Industry, Pat Conroy.
Meanwhile, Richard Marles, the Deputy Prime Minister, reiterated Australia's commitment to supporting Ukraine: “Australia remains steadfast in our support for Ukraine and seeing a just and lasting peace.”
It was also noted that in August, Australia will send an E-7A Wedgetail aircraft to Europe to protect important routes for the delivery of aid to Ukraine.
As The Gaze earlier informed, the Australian government has expanded the anti-Russian sanctions list by adding 37 Russian individuals and seven Russian companies in an effort to limit Moscow's ability to continue its aggressive war against Ukraine.
