The story about the Barbie doll, directed by Greta Gerwig, which has every chance to become the highest-grossing release of 2023, has surpassed the 12-year record of Warner Bros. studio, outperforming the undeniable hit - "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2".

This was reported by the publication MovieWeb.

The film about the iconic wizard collected $960.5 million worldwide. As of now, the Barbie film has already collected $1.342 billion and has turned into an indisputable champion of the worldwide box office.

Furthermore, Greta Gerwig's film has entered the list of the 25 highest-grossing films of all time and nations. It's worth noting that there are only four movies in the list that do not belong to any franchise. Legendary cinematic masterpieces like "Inception," "It," and "Gravity" accompany the Barbie company in this list.

The film "Barbie" reached the $1 billion box office mark fastest in the history of Warner Bros. In the first weekend alone, it gathered $377 million.

In the past 10 years, only eight Warner Bros. projects managed to approach the billion-dollar mark in the box office.

Also, Greta Gerwig is recognized as the first female director whose film achieved the highest opening weekend for a film directed by a woman.

Although "Barbie" has already managed to break numerous records, it's important to remember that the achieved results are not final. The film is still being shown in theaters, and exclusive releases are awaited on VOD platforms like HBO MAX, where the film is likely to continue breaking records in terms of earnings and performance.

At the same time, responding to questions about the potential continuation of the "Barbie" film, director Greta Gerwig mentioned that she currently has no ideas.

"At this moment, this is all I have. I feel at the end of each film as if I will never have another idea, and everything I ever wanted to do, I did. I didn't want to shatter anyone's dreams, but for me, at this moment, I'm at a complete zero",- said Gerwig.

It's worth reminding that recently researchers noticed that the entertainment industry of the USA, including the box office earnings of the Barbie film, significantly contributes to the American economy. It's expected that thanks to the "Barbiemania" Oppenheimer, and celebrity concerts like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, the US economy will receive an additional $8.5 billion.
