Belgian PM, Defence and Foreign Ministers Visit Ukraine

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot and Defence Minister Theo Francken arrived in Kyiv on 8 April. The Gaze reports about it referring to VRT.
The Belgian ministers are scheduled to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
According to the Belgian Foreign Minister, this visit is not just a symbolic gesture. ‘This is a mission of solidarity, hope and unwavering support for a generation of Ukrainians fighting for their freedom and future,’ Prevot wrote on X.
He also posted a photo from the Ukrainian town of Bucha in Kyiv region, which the Belgian ministers visited to commemorate the victims of Russian aggression.
‘Today we honour the memory of the victims. We support the survivors. And we reaffirm this: Belgium stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine. Justice must be done,’ the Belgian Foreign Minister stressed.
The day before, the head of the Belgian Ministry of Defence posted a joint photo with de Wever and a caption: ‘We are going to Ukraine together with our Prime Minister, we support the bravest of Europeans in every way possible.’
Representatives of the new Belgian government, which took office in February 2025, have not yet visited Ukraine.
At the same time, Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov met with his Belgian counterpart Theo Francken in mid-February to discuss the further implementation of the F-16 programme.
