Berlin Pushes for Deal with U.S. to Deliver Patriot Missiles to Ukraine

The German government is urgently working on a plan to bolster Ukraine's air defense capabilities by financing the delivery of additional Patriot missile systems and interceptor rockets.
The Gaze reports on this with reference Bild.
Berlin submitted a formal request to the United States several weeks ago, asking Washington to approve the transfer of two Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, which Germany would fully fund.
The German Defense Ministry is now awaiting a green light from U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Bild reports that Ukraine had previously attempted to acquire Patriot systems directly from the United States without success, prompting Kyiv to turn to Berlin for assistance.
However, with the Trump administration’s recent decision to suspend some arms shipments to Ukraine, concerns are growing in Germany that Washington might also reject this joint initiative.
The issue was reportedly discussed during a recent cabinet meeting in Berlin, where officials acknowledged that halted U.S. arms deliveries cannot be easily offset.
Still, Germany and its allies are exploring ways to provide at least some Patriot systems from their own stockpiles to meet Ukraine’s urgent needs.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to raise the issue of continued U.S. military support, including PAC-3 interceptor missiles for the Patriot system, during an upcoming conversation with President Donald Trump.
