Canada Provides Ukraine with $1.5 Billion Credit for Social Payments and $40 Million for Ammunition Purchase
Ukraine has received a $2 billion credit from Canada (approximately $1.5 billion) to fund budget expenditures, as announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
Denys Shmyhal emphasized that these funds will help the government ensure funding for social payments.
"These crucial funds will assist our government in financing the deficit, particularly social assistance programs for Ukrainians. The total amount of financial support for the Ukrainian budget from Canada since the start of Russia's full-scale aggression is almost $7 billion Canadian dollars," stated Denys Shmyhal.
Additionally, the Canadian government revealed that they are allocating over $40 million USD for the Czech initiative to purchase large-calibre ammunition for Ukraine, enabling the delivery of several thousand artillery projectiles. This commitment follows the signing of the Canadian-Czech Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation last month, setting the framework for defence collaboration between Canada and the Czech Republic, including support for Ukraine.
Furthermore, the Canadian government announced that they will provide Ukraine with a package of night vision devices to assist the Ukrainian Armed Forces in conducting nighttime operations. This assistance, valued at approximately $7.5 million USD, will be provided by the Canadian company Twenty20 Insight Inc.
"The announced assistance demonstrates Canada's steadfast commitment to providing Ukrainians with critically important and long-term military assistance necessary for defending their country. Canada's unwavering support for Ukraine includes commitments made in the historic Security Cooperation Agreement between Canada and Ukraine, signed last month by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv," stated the Canadian government's announcement.
The Canadian government noted that since February 2022, Canada has allocated over $13.3 billion to support Ukraine, including $4 billion for military assistance, including M777 howitzers, Leopard 2 main battle tanks, armoured combat support vehicles, hundreds of thousands of ammunition rounds, hundreds of drones, and much more.
