This year, Ukrainians who are in the Czech Republic under the status of temporary protection will be able to apply for a special long-term residence permit. This is reported by Schengen News.
However, in order to obtain such a permit, one must meet certain criteria, including an annual income of at least EUR 18,480.
Other requirements include residency in the Czech Republic for at least two years and no financial assistance for the last six months.
After receiving the permit, refugees will be able to apply for permanent residence after five years, just like all other foreigners. The government will discuss the proposal after 18 February, when the deadline for comments from ministers and other institutions will expire.
According to the Czech Ministry of the Interior, almost 400,000 refugees have been granted temporary protection in the country since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Among them are 96,700 children, 17,600 people over the age of 65, 171,000 women and 111,400 men of working age.
The Czech Republic is one of the three EU countries that have accepted the most Ukrainians under the status of temporary protection. Only Germany and Poland are ahead.
