Days of Ukrainian Cinema Begin in Azerbaijan’s Capital
The capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, is hosting the Days of Ukrainian Cinema as part of the New Horizons of Ukrainian Culture project, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine reports.
The series of events began with a screening of the film Home by Nariman Aliyev. The film was presented by Ukrainian actor and director Akhtem Seitablaev.
‘This is a film about identity, about the connection with the homeland and about the importance of preserving your roots,’ he said.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan Yuriy Huseyev and Head of the Ukrainian Centre in Baku Olga Huseyeva delivered welcoming speeches at the opening. They stressed the importance of cultural cooperation between the two nations.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Ukrainian film award ‘Golden Dzyga’. The head of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, Sergiy Borodenyuk, solemnly awarded Azerbaijani director and actor Novruz Pashayev for his role in the film La Palisiada.
The screenings will last until 1 December at the Landmark Cinema, located at 90A Nizami Street.
On 29 November, at 18:00, the film Godspell will be shown, and at 20:10 - Egregore.
On 30 November, at 18:00, the film House of the Word: A Never-Ending Novel, at 20:10 - Me, Pobeda and Berlin.
On 1 December, at 18:00, Mavka. The Forest Song will be shown at 18:00, and “Shchedryk” - at 19:50.
The event is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine with the support of the International Film Society together with film producers Yuriy Artemenko and Serhiy Lavrenyuk.
As previously reported by The Gaze, a special screening of the Ukrainian film Palisade directed by Philip Sotnychenko took place in Poland as part of the 32nd EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Film Festival. From 6 to 8 December, the Ukrainian Film Days will also be held in the Italian capital, Rome.
