Azerbaijani President Demands Punishment for Russian Representatives Responsible for Downing Azerbaijan Airlines Passenger Plane
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has demanded that Russia's representatives responsible for the downing of the Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane in Kazakhstan be punished, Azertag reports.
‘I don't want to disclose all the materials of the criminal case yet, I have been informed of its preliminary investigation and results. But I can say with certainty that the fault for this accident lies with the representatives of the Russian Federation. We demand justice, we demand punishment for those responsible, we demand full transparency,’ he stressed.
According to Aliyev, the process of decoding the black boxes is currently underway, and the preliminary result will be known in the near future.
‘Everything will fall into place, the whole picture of the tragedy that happened will be known. And this, of course, will be an important moment in the full investigation of this tragedy and the punishment of those responsible for it,’ the Azerbaijani leader stressed.
Aliyev said that the silence of the Russian state authorities on the incident ‘causes us surprise, regret and justified anger’.
As The Gaze previously reported, on 25 December, an Azerbaijan Airlines plane en route from Baku to Grozny crashed in Kazakhstan. The plane crash killed 38 people.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the plane had been shot at from the ground.
According to some media reports, the passenger plane was shot down by a Russian air defence missile.
