Denmark has decided to troll US President Donald Trump over his statements about the possible purchase of Greenland by launching a fundraiser to ‘buy’ California.
The online campaign was initiated by Danish activist Xavier Dutoit. He believes that such a move will help Denmark get ‘what it needs’ - ‘more sun, palm trees and roller skates’.
Other benefits listed on the campaign's website include the presence of Silicon Valley in California, the ability to make more ‘avocado toast’ (the state accounts for 90% of US-grown avocados), and Disneyland.
‘Let's be honest: Trump is not the biggest fan of California. He has called it ‘the most destroyed state in the US’ and has been at odds with its leaders for years. We're pretty sure he'd be willing to part with it for the right price,’ the campaign's website says.
Dutoit proposes to raise $1 trillion to ‘buy’ California ‘give or take a few billion’ and add Danish pastries to the deal, and send representatives of the Lego company to negotiate with Trump.
In a commentary to Politico, the activist explained this choice by saying that ‘dealing with children throwing tantrums over missing bricks has made them experts in negotiations.’
In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump has stated that he does not rule out the use of military force to establish control over Greenland, calling it critical to US national security.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio insists that Trump's plans are not a joke.
Earlier, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that Greenland is ‘not for sale’.
