Denmark Signs Security Agreement with Ukraine, Provides New Package of Military Aid

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced the signing of an agreement with Ukraine regarding "security commitments." The agreement entails Denmark committing to support Ukraine both militarily and in civilian spheres over the next decade, as reported by DR.
This agreement will help preserve Ukraine's defence capabilities in response to threats from Russia and aid in preventing potential future Russian aggressions. "This is the most serious security situation since the end of the Cold War. And the Danish government cannot emphasize enough how important it is for Ukraine to receive the necessary military support. If we do not stand together, Ukraine will not stand, and potentially neither will Europe," said Frederiksen.
It is also reported that Denmark is providing Ukraine with slightly over 1.7 billion Danish kroner (approximately 228 million euros) as the fifteenth aid package. These funds will help procure air defence assets, drones, and 15,000 artillery shells.
"Not only human lives are at stake, but also our freedom and democracy, which are under serious pressure," noted Danish Defence Minister Trine Troels Lund Poulsen.
Overall, Denmark has provided support to Ukraine totalling 34.5 billion Danish kroner (about 4.5 billion euros), excluding Danish support through the EU. Denmark's civilian support to Ukraine currently amounts to about 3 billion Danish kroner (approximately 402 million euros).
Recall that The Gaze reported that Ukraine and Germany signed a bilateral agreement on cooperation in the security sphere, following the G7 declaration on security assurances for Ukraine. In particular, Germany commits to continuing to support Ukraine on its reform path, while Ukraine pledges to continue reforms, with special attention to areas identified for EU accession in line with the European Commission's recommendations of November 8, 2023.
In the event of potential future Russian aggression against Ukraine, the agreement includes consultations within 24 hours to determine further steps. In this regard, Germany reaffirms its readiness to provide swift and consistent support to Ukraine in security matters, including supplying modern military equipment and providing economic assistance.
