Moldova's European Integration Will Accelerate During Poland's EU Council Presidency, - Prime Minister Tusk
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk paid an official visit to Moldova the day before and addressed the country's parliament partially in Romanian. In his address, he promised to help Moldova join the European Union.
‘Each of you who has been to Poland could compare what it used to look like and what it looks like today. Undoubtedly, changes are coming to Moldova as well,’ Tusk said.
The Polish Prime Minister noted that the decision to join the European Union should be made by the people, not the country's leaders. He also added that he would help Moldova accelerate the process of European integration when Poland takes over the presidency of the EU Council.
‘For me, it is important to speed up this process and make this final real. If this is what you want, if you decide so [in the referendum], I will do everything possible to ensure that Europe effectively supports you and helps you along the way,’ Donald Tusk promised.
In his address, the head of the Polish government addressed the citizens of Moldova in Romanian.
‘You, as a nation, have shown incredible patience, perseverance and responsibility. You have gone through very difficult trials, but step by step you are building a modern state. Let's use this opportunity together. I will be at your disposal. You can always count on Poland if you want to join the European Union,’ Tusk said.
As a reminder, on 20 October, Moldova will hold presidential elections and simultaneously hold a referendum on Moldova's accession to the EU.
