Sandu Sees Strong Alliance with Ukraine as Basis for Peace in Moldova

Moldovan President Maia Sandu believes that reliable relations between Moldova, Ukraine, Romania and countries that respect international law will ensure its protection.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to TV8.md.
‘After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, we are concerned with the same question: how to ensure the security of Moldova? How to protect our people from the ravages of war? From the first day, our position was clear: we are on the side of peace, not aggression, and we are doing everything possible to preserve peace in Moldova through diplomatic means. We can ensure the security of the country by demonstrating predictable and consistent behaviour, building reliable partnerships with our neighbours - Romania and Ukraine - and other countries that respect international law and the borders of states,’ the Moldovan president said in a speech to the country's parliament on 17 April.
Sandu also reiterated that the presence of the Russian army in Transnistria is a gross violation of neutrality and a potential threat to destabilise the Republic of Moldova.
‘Moldova is a small country with a foreign army on its territory. To be clear, we are talking about the illegal deployment of the Russian military contingent in the Transnistrian region, which is a gross violation of our neutral status. The presence of the Russian army on our land poses a risk of destabilisation, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine,’ the president said.
As The Gaze reported earlier, in January, the Presidents of Ukraine and Moldova, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Maia Sandu, called on Russia to withdraw its troops from all the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as from the Transnistrian region.
