Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said that the decision of the Russian Federation to put her on the wanted list is not surprising and that it is a standard intimidation tactic of this country, which her family has known since the KGB days, and noted that she will continue to work in support of Ukraine and strengthening European defence, ERR reports.
The Estonian prime minister added that if Russia believes that a fictitious arrest warrant will help to silence Estonia, she will not remain silent and will continue to strongly support Ukraine and advocate for strengthening European defence.
"Throughout history, Russia has been hiding its repressions through its so-called law enforcement agencies. A KGB arrest warrant was also issued against my family once in history. I have always said that the criminal tools of the Russian regime have not changed. Our actions are not justified by their intimidation," the Estonian Prime Minister said.
As previously reported, the Russian Interior Ministry's wanted list contains more than a hundred officials and politicians from Eastern Europe who were prosecuted after the demolition of Soviet monuments in their countries. Among them are Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Lithuanian Culture Minister Simonas Kairis.
Kallas and Peterkop are the only names from Estonia in the database. The database contains 83 names from Latvia, including former Interior Minister Maria Golubeva, 59 members of the previous Saeima and 15 members of the Riga City Council. All of them spoke in favour of dismantling the red monuments.
