EU Commission Approves Another €4bn Tranche to Ukraine Under Ukraine Facility Programme
The European Commission has approved the allocation of 4 billion euro in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the form of grants and loans under the Ukraine Facility programme. This was announced on social media by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The funds are part of the macro-financial assistance programme for Ukraine worth up to €50 billion.
‘The European Commission has given the green light for a new disbursement of €4 billion from the Ukraine Facility.
As we approach the 1,000th day of Russia's brutal war, we will help support the Ukrainian state as it fights for survival. We are here for the long haul,’ von der Leyen wrote.
The allocation of funds must be approved by the EU Council.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has already thanked the EU for the new tranche.
‘I am grateful for the unwavering support of the EU and the European Commission. The EC's positive assessment of the €4.1 billion disbursement to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility, which will bring the total amount to €16.1 billion in 2024, underlines our success in fulfilling all the conditions set out in the Ukraine Plan.
We look forward to a swift decision by the EU Council on this matter. This assistance strengthens our macroeconomic stability while we continue to implement important reforms,’ Shmyhal wrote on social media platform X.
Ukraine received the first tranches of the programme without conditions, and the basis for receiving the next tranches is the implementation of a specific reform plan in a number of areas.
The previous tranche of almost €4.2 billion under the Ukraine Facility programme was transferred to Ukraine by the European Commission in August.
