EU Invests €910 Million to Boost Defence and Integrate Ukraine’s Military Industry

Brussels, April 30, 2025 – The European Commission is investing €910 million through the 2024 edition of the European Defence Fund (EDF) to strengthen Europe’s defence capabilities, close key military gaps, and accelerate innovation across the continent, The Gaze reports.
A critical step in enhancing EU security and strategic readiness, the funding focuses on key areas like force mobility, drone defence, and next-generation rotorcraft and minesweeping systems.
For the first time, Ukrainian defence industries are eligible to participate in EDF projects—marking a milestone in Ukraine’s integration into the European defence industrial base.
“This cooperation strengthens shared security and innovation objectives,” the Commission said, noting close coordination with the EU Defence Innovation Office in Kyiv.
The investment aligns with the EU’s ReArm Europe Plan and the Defence Readiness 2030 strategy to build a resilient, interconnected, and technologically advanced European defence system.
Nearly €45 million will support disruptive technologies, such as advanced AI-driven drones and stealth materials.
The Commission aims to finalize grant agreements with selected consortia by the end of 2025.
