EU to Provide €44 Million to Ukraine for Supporting Civil Society

The European Union, together with its member states Sweden and Germany, will provide 44 million euros to support civil society in Ukraine, the EU Delegation to Ukraine informs.  

The EU will announce a grant competition in May 2025, with €14 million to support civil society organisations. Of this amount, €5 million will be used to develop gender leadership and conflict resolution strategies.  

In addition, Sweden and Germany will provide additional assistance of €17 million.  

The EU is also accelerating the implementation of a €13 million support package that provides funding for civil society projects, including in the areas of gender equality, accountability for war crimes, access to information, strengthening democratic processes, social cohesion and sustainable development.  

This initiative is aimed at strengthening the EU's long-term strategy to strengthen civil society in Ukraine, increase its resilience to Russian aggression and ensure the effective distribution of humanitarian and integration assistance.  

As The Gaze previously reported, the EU is also preparing a $10 million support package for independent media in Ukraine after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that 83% of USAID programmes, which supported a number of projects in Ukraine, would be cut.
