EU, UK Threaten Russia With New Sanctions If Putin Refuses Zelenskyy Talks

The United Kingdom and the European Union are preparing sanctions against Russia, which may be imposed if Russian leader Vladimir Putin refuses to participate in trilateral talks with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to The Telegraph.
According to a British government official, Britain and the EU are preparing new sanctions against Russia, which could be imposed if Putin refuses to participate in talks with Zelenskyy and Trump.
‘If Putin procrastinates, evades or refuses to negotiate, it will be another reason to impose sanctions,’ he said.
The British government officials also noted that Putin agreed to meet with Trump in Alaska only after the US president imposed sanctions on India for continuing to buy Russian oil.
Earlier, European Council President António Costa said that the main priority for the European Union in the peace negotiations in Ukraine was a ceasefire on the part of Russia, otherwise the EU would increase sanctions pressure.
EU foreign ministers will discuss the 19th package of sanctions against Russia on 29-30 August in Copenhagen.
This package could be adopted as early as September 2025.
