Ukrainian Delegation Concludes New Round of Talks with Trump Envoys in Miami
A fresh round of discussions between Ukraine’s negotiating team and envoys representing U.S. President Donald Trump has wrapped up in Miami, Florida.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Suspilne.
The meeting in Miami concluded late Thursday night local time, with news of its completion emerging in Kyiv around 5 a.m. on Friday.
Ukraine was represented by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, who leads Kyiv’s negotiating group, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Andrii Hnatov.
The talks were arranged after American and Russian officials met in Moscow on 2 December, with the Florida meeting intended to brief Ukraine on the content of those discussions and clarify Washington’s approach to a potential U.S. “peace plan.”
Earlier reports suggested President Volodymyr Zelenskyy might hold a separate meeting with Trump associates Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner somewhere in Europe, though those plans ultimately did not materialize.
Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has suggested that progress toward ending Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine may soon yield “good news,” noting that recent diplomatic efforts have moved forward more than at any previous stage.
In an interview with NBC News, Vance said that while negotiations have not yet reached a final breakthrough, Washington sees “significant progress” and remains cautiously optimistic. “I think there’s hope – should hopefully be some good news the next few weeks on that front,” he stated.
Vance described the lack of a peace agreement as one of his major frustrations in office, acknowledging that the White House had initially believed the conflict would be far easier to resolve.
“Russian-Ukrainian relations have been a constant source of frustration for the entire White House,” he noted, adding that officials once assumed this would be “the easiest war” to halt.
The U.S. Vice President also argued that securing peace in Eastern Europe should be seen as no less urgent than achieving stability in the Middle East.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Russia and the U.S. failed to reach a compromise on a possible peace plan for Ukraine after a five-hour, late-night meeting in the Kremlin between President Vladimir Putin and two U.S. President Donald Trump’s top envoys.
