EU Urges UN Security Council to Hold Russia Accountable for Aggression

The European Union has called on the United Nations Security Council to ensure full accountability for the Russian leadership over its war of aggression against Ukraine.
Speaking at a Council meeting on Wednesday, the EU reaffirmed its stance that justice must be served, The Gaze reports citing UkrInform.
“There can be no impunity. Russia and its leadership must be held fully accountable for waging a war of aggression and for other most serious crimes under international law,” the EU representatives stated in a declaration delivered at the UN.
The EU emphasized that Ukraine has clearly demonstrated its willingness to accept a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire without preconditions. However, rather than reciprocate, Russia has continued and escalated its attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure.
“Instead of responding in kind, Russia has intensified its relentless attacks on Ukraine’s civilian population and infrastructure,” the statement read.
Brussels also reiterated a key diplomatic principle: there can be no negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine, nor talks impacting European security without Europe’s involvement.
“There can be no negotiations about Ukraine without Ukraine, and no negotiations that affect European security without Europe,” the EU representatives stressed.
Despite the worsening situation, the European Union assured its continued commitment to supporting peace efforts and upholding international law.
“The EU remains ready to continue playing its full part,” the declaration noted, while also pointing out that “unfortunately, the past week has again shown Russia’s lack of interest in a ceasefire.”
The EU’s strong messaging comes amid ongoing diplomatic pressure to hold Moscow accountable and bring about a meaningful path to peace.
