European Commission Approves Integration of Ukraine Into EU Roaming Area

The European Commission has agreed to grant Ukraine access to the Roam like at Home policy, which will allow Ukrainians to use mobile communications in the EU without additional costs. Official accession is expected on 1 January 2026.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to a post by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on social media.
‘An important step in Ukraine's European integration. The European Commission has agreed to grant Ukraine so-called “roaming visa-free travel” — accession to the EU's Roam like at Home policy,’ he said.
According to the head of government, full accession is expected to take place on 1 January 2026.
‘The government is currently approving the decision of the Ukraine-EU Association Committee on the mutual opening of the roaming sector. This is part of the procedure for finalising the acquisition of roaming visa-free travel,’ Shmyhal added.
For his part, Taras Melnychuk, the government's permanent representative in the Ukrainian parliament, explained that the Cabinet of Ministers had approved the draft decision of the Ukraine-EU Association Committee in the trade composition on the mutual provision by Ukraine and the European Union of an internal market regime for the roaming sector in public mobile communications networks.
He stressed that the implementation of the decision will create conditions for further steps towards Ukraine's accession to the EU's single roaming zone, Roam like at Home.
Earlier, the European Commission announced a proposal to integrate Ukraine into the European roaming system from the beginning of 2026, which will allow Ukrainians in the EU and European citizens in Ukraine to keep in touch with friends and family without additional costs.
