European Council President: EU Leaders to Hold Special Meeting on Defence and Ukraine on 6 March

European Council President Antonio Costa announced yesterday that a special meeting of European leaders will be held on 6 March.
‘We are living through a defining moment for Ukraine and European security,’ Costa said in a post on social media, announcing his decision to convene a special European Council.
‘During my consultations with European leaders, I heard a shared commitment to face these challenges at the EU level: to strengthen European defence and to contribute decisively to peace on our continent and to the long-term security of Ukraine,’ he added.
The recent high-level meetings between Russian and US officials on possible agreements concluded without the participation of Ukraine and the EU have raised concerns in Europe.
Today, a support summit is taking place in the Ukrainian capital with the participation of European leaders and the leadership of the European Commission and the European Council.
