The organisers of Eurovision 2024 have introduced changes to the draw. From now on, the choice of the order of performances in the final of the Song Contest will depend on the show's producers.
Previously, the representatives of the countries that made it to the Eurovision Grand Final would draw lots to determine whether they would perform in the first or second part of the show. After that, the show's producers decided under which number the participating countries would go on stage.
This year, a new category was introduced in the draw - Producer's Choice. So the order in which the artists go on stage will depend solely on the show's producers.
According to the organisers, this change in the rules will allow the show's producers to create a more interesting order of performances in the final of the competition, where each participant will stand out from the rest.
"It's about creating the best television show and giving all the artists a chance to prove themselves. In previous years, when the draw was only for the first and second half of the show, you could see a lot of ballads ending up in the same part, or a lot of favourites performing in the same half of the final. 'Producer's Choice' will give me more flexibility and create an opportunity to create an even more exciting final," said Eurovision Song Contest 2024 producer Christer Bjorkman.
Representatives of the Big Five countries will be the first to try their luck on 4 May in a live interactive Reddit AMA interview that will take place after the second rehearsal of these countries.
Each of the 10 winners of the first semi-final will take part in the draw immediately after the show. The event will be streamed live on the official Eurovision TikTok account.
Another 10 participants who will make it to the grand final will also choose one of the three remaining options.
In the morning of 10 May, the producers will draw up the order of the artists' performances in the final of the Song Contest, after which it will be published on the official website and social media.
The 68th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö, Sweden.
The first and second semi-finals are scheduled for 7 and 9 May, and the grand final will take place on 11 May.
