Finnish President Calls for Lifting Restrictions on Ukraine's Long-Range Strikes Deep Into Russia
Finnish President Alexander Stubb believes that Western powers, including the United States, should lift restrictions on long-range strikes on Russian territory.
He said this in an interview with The New York Times.
Stubb called on allies in the global West, including the United States, to ‘allow Ukraine to fight without hands tied behind its back and lift’ restrictions on long-range strikes.
‘We must continue to support Ukraine, starting with finance, starting with ammunition, starting with vehicles, and also allow Ukraine to use weapons as it sees fit, as long as it is in self-defence and within international rules,’ he added.
The President of Finland stressed that Russia is an imperial power, and expansion is ‘in its DNA’.
‘Therefore, we need to convince Putin that there is no point in continuing this war, and I think Putin must lose both war and peace, because the only thing he understands is force. The main thing is to allow Ukraine to wage this war without any restrictions, and everything after that is secondary,’ Stubb said.
The Finnish president added that greater freedom of action for Ukraine would bring ‘peace talks’ closer.
Earlier, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also said that Ukraine's allies should stop hesitating to help the country in its struggle and allow the use of the weapons provided to strike Russia.
