Finnish Prime Minister Orpo: Russia Remains a Threat Today, Tomorrow and In Future
He called for strengthening European security due to risks posed by Russia.
The Gaze reports on it according to the Guardian.
Speaking alongside the leaders of Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Sweden, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo notes that the meeting is taking place at a time when ‘Europe is facing some of the most serious and important issues of our time’.
Orpo states that ‘we are closer to peace than ever before,’ but warns that ‘we see no signs that Russia is truly seeking peace,’ reports The Guardian.
‘Russia remains a threat today, tomorrow and in the near future for the whole of Europe. That is why we are strengthening our cooperation. We share a strong political will to strengthen our common security and defence of Europe, starting with the eastern flank,’ he said.
Estonian Prime Minister Kristjan Michal expressed a similar sentiment, stating that ‘Europe's security is closely linked to Ukraine.’
‘If Russia does not suffer a strategic defeat in Ukraine, it will become even bolder,’ he warned.
Earlier, Orpo noted that Russia would transfer its troops to NATO's eastern flank if a peace agreement were reached on the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine, calling for more funds to be allocated to the defence of states ‘on the front line’.
