Kallas: Russia Will Not beAble to Avoid ‘Paying the Bill’ For Its War in Ukraine
Kallas believes that Russia will not escape punishment.
The Gaze reports on it according to the Guardian.
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said at an event in The Hague that Russia will not be able to avoid responsibility for the war in Ukraine, The Guardian reports.
Kallas added that the International Commission, which will confirm the military damage in Ukraine to be compensated by Russia, sends a signal to future aggressors that ‘if you start a war, you will be held accountable.’
She also announced that the EU would provide ‘up to €1 million’ for the preparatory work of the new commission.
Earlier, Callas warned European countries about the danger of ‘falling into Russian traps’ in their desire to achieve a peaceful settlement at any cost under pressure from the US.
She says that Moscow is ‘only pretending’ to want peace talks, while everyone continues to put pressure on Ukraine, ‘because otherwise Russia will not sit down at the negotiating table, and then you will get a baseline scenario where Ukraine has agreed to concessions and Russia has not, and that baseline scenario can only get worse.’
