France Delivers First Mirage 2000 Fighter Jets to Ukraine
On 6 February, France handed over the first French Mirage 2000 fighter jets to Ukraine, French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu said on social media site X.
He did not name the number of fighter jets delivered, but noted that they arrived with ‘Ukrainian pilots on board’ who had undergone several months of training in France.
‘On 6 June 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the delivery of French Mirage 2000s to Ukraine. Now they will take part in the defence of Ukrainian skies,’ the minister added.
Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov also spoke about this event.
‘Ukrainian skies are becoming more secure! The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has received a long-awaited reinforcement - the first French Mirage 2000 fighters,’ he wrote on Facebook.
According to him, the Mirage 2000 will soon start performing combat missions and will become a new element in the defence of Ukrainian skies.
Umerov thanked France for ‘this strategically important contribution’ to Ukraine's security.
