French Parliament to Consider Impeachment of President Macron
The French National Assembly (the lower house of parliament) has taken up the initiative of the far-left to consider the impeachment of President Emmanuel Macron.
This was reported by Le Figaro and BFMTV.
The Bureau of the National Assembly, by 12 votes to 10, approved the launch of the impeachment procedure for Macron at the initiative of the far-left ‘Unconquered France’ party. This is to be followed by debates in the law committee and in the parliamentary hall within a few weeks.
The Unconquered France, which had collected 300,000 signatures for this purpose, then declared its ‘victory’. After Macron's refusal to appoint a left-wing prime minister, the party claimed that the election had been ‘stolen’ and began organising protests.
Media outlets believe that the Initiative has no chance of resulting in the impeachment of the president, as it requires two-thirds of the votes in both houses of parliament.
At the same time, this is the first time that such a proposal has passed the ‘filter’ of the National Assembly Bureau.
