G7 Envoys Hold Emergency Talks with Ukraine After Russian Strikes on Energy Sector
Following large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the ambassadors of the G7 countries held an urgent meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian government and energy companies to coordinate further support.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to Deutsche Welle.
On Friday, G7 ambassadors met with Energy Minister Svitlana Grinchuk, as well as representatives of Naftogaz, Ukrenergo, and Energoatom.
The main topic of discussion was the consequences of Russia's new large-scale strikes on energy and civilian infrastructure, which caused power outages in many regions of Ukraine.
As The Gaze reported earlier on October 10, Russia unleashed a massive overnight barrage on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, plunging parts of Kyiv into darkness and disrupting water supplies.
Among other things, the Netherlands also called for increased pressure on Russia after the new strikes on Ukraine's energy sector.
Meanwhile, Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel stressed that Russia is massively attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure amid falling temperatures.
“Instead of taking peace seriously, Putin is leaving civilians in the cold and dark. With winter approaching, we must increase pressure on Russia and increase support for Ukraine,” the Dutch foreign minister urged.
The Gaze previously informed that to meet its target winter gas reserves, Ukraine must acquire up to 1 billion dollars’ worth of additional gas, securing enough supply to cover domestic demand amid continued attacks on its energy infrastructure.
