Ukraine Confirms 676 Children Killed Since Start of Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion
Ukraine has confirmed that at least 676 children have been killed since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, while more than 2,000 minors have been injured.
The Gaze reports this, referring to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office.
The figures, released on Thursday, were cited by multiple Ukrainian media and accompanied by an updated infographic published on the office’s official website.
Authorities stressed that the real toll is likely higher, as investigators continue to document casualties in frontline areas, as well as in territories that remain occupied or have only recently been liberated.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the highest number of child casualties has been recorded in the Donetsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, as well as in parts of southern Ukraine affected by intense and prolonged Russian attacks.
The report also notes that 19,546 Ukrainian children have been deported or forcibly transferred to Russia, a practice Kyiv and international organizations classify as a grave violation of international law.
The updated casualty data follows earlier reports from late November, when Ukraine confirmed 668 children had been killed. The numbers rose further after the deadly missile strike on Ternopil on 19 November, which claimed 38 lives, including eight children.
Officials emphasize that casualty verification is ongoing amid continued Russian missile and drone attacks across the country.
Ukrainian authorities and international partners have condemned Russia’s continued targeting of civilian areas, calling the scale of child casualties and deportations an egregious breach of international humanitarian law and a moral outrage that demands global accountability.
As The Gaze previously reported, the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, highlighted Russia's systematic abduction of Ukrainian children and called on the US Congress to take decisive action to secure their return.
