German Chancellor Outlines Key Tasks for Western Allies in Ukraine Support

During his visit to Lithuania, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz named the key tasks for Western allies in supporting Ukraine, which, in his opinion, are important at this time.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to LRT.
Merz said that in the current situation, he sees four key elements that Ukraine's Western allies should focus on.
"We will not allow Russia to create discord among us. We firmly support Ukraine. We Europeans stand together. And we will be one team with the United States as much as possible," he said.
He stressed that everyone supports the same goal - a full ceasefire, as originally proposed by the United States.
"Thirdly, we will continue to put pressure on Moscow. The President of Ukraine has demonstrated to the whole world again and again in recent weeks that the stalling of the negotiations is not Ukraine's fault. To get Russia to the negotiating table, the EU approved a new package of sanctions. So you know that we are ready to do even more - more pressure on Russia, more support for Ukraine," Merz said.
"And finally, the fourth thing is that we have to keep the bigger picture in mind: Russia, as it is now, is a threat to all of us. We are defending ourselves against this threat, and that is why we are here today," the Chancellor added.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's first official visit to Lithuania was timed to coincide with the start of a German mechanised brigade's deployment to the country.
He assured that Germany is determined to defend the entire NATO area.
As The Gaze reported earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni jointly reaffirmed on Saturday that Europe is not contemplating deploying troops to Ukraine, stressing that the continent's immediate priority remains securing an unconditional ceasefire from Russia.
