Google to Implement Gemini AI for Broadcast of Paris Olympics in the US
Google has acquired the title of ‘official artificial intelligence sponsor for Team USA’ and will introduce Gemini artificial intelligence to broadcast the Paris Olympics. This will allow sports commentators to use artificial intelligence to explain the competition, the tech company said on Thursday, along with NBCUniversal and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
NBCUniversal's partnership with Google will put many of the company's AI-powered features in the spotlight during the event. This will be the first time a tech company has partnered with a sports non-profit, the three organisations said in a statement.
The broadcast will include 3D Google Maps views of places such as Versailles, Stade Roland Garros and the Aquatics Centre, as well as interesting information about what events will be taking place at each location. The images are taken from the immersive effects added to Maps over the past few years, which present landmarks and places of interest using photorealistic models.
As part of the agreement to promote Gemini and other Google AI tools, announcers and commentators will squeeze overviews of Google's search AI into the broadcast as they attempt to answer questions from the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In addition, comedian Leslie Jones will ask Gemini to help her learn a new sport.
Among other planned activities, five Olympic and Paralympic athletes will appear in ‘social videos and nightly ads’ using Gemini, Google Lens, Circle to Search, and Google Maps Immersive View to explore Paris.
The Olympic Games in Paris start on 26 July.
