Guinness Records Name New World's Oldest Man at Age of 112
After the death of 112-year-old British John Tinniswood, his peer João Marinho Neto from Brazil was recognised as the new oldest man in the world, according to the Guinness World Records website.
The man is now 112 years and 52 days old. The record age was confirmed by the LongeviQuest gerontological group.
João Neto was born on 5 October 1912 in Marangué, Brazil, to a farmer's family. As a boy, he helped his father, including picking fruit from trees and caring for cattle.
Later, the Brazilian married Josepha Albano and had four children together.
Having inherited his father's land, João Neto continued to cultivate the plots and raise cattle, goats, pigs and chickens.
The Guinness World Records says that during his lifetime, the Brazilian faced many difficulties and survived several severe droughts that hit his region over the years.
‘But he worked hard to build a financially stable life, accumulating many assets such as land and houses,’ it added.
Later, in another marriage, João Neto had three more children. Currently, the man has six children, 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In early 2024, the Brazilian was recognised as the oldest living man in Latin America.
In August this year, 116-year-old Japanese woman Tomiko Itooka was named the world's oldest person.
