Slovakia to Seek ‘Peace’ for Ukraine Together with China and Brazil
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that his country would join the Friends of Peace group, created at the initiative of China and Brazil, to peacefully resolve Russia's war against Ukraine.
He said this at a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, Ukrinform reports, citing the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
During the talks, Xi and Fico discussed, among other things, the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The Chinese leader pointed out Beijing's principled position on the ‘Ukrainian crisis’ (as the genocidal war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine is called in China), which is to promote a political settlement.
Xi also praised Slovakia's ‘objective, rational and fair attitude’ to Russia's war against Ukraine, and invited Slovakia and other like-minded countries to work with China to promote peace and negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
In turn, Fico praised China and called China's position ‘fair, objective and constructive’.
He said that Slovakia would join the ‘Friends of Peace’ platform created at the initiative of China and Brazil to promote a political settlement of the conflict.
Fico arrived in Beijing on 31 October for a state visit that will end on 5 November. Following his meeting with Xi on 1 November, Slovakia and China announced that they had upgraded their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.
In September, China, Brazil and some other countries of the Global South agreed to create the Friends of Peace platform during the UN General Assembly in New York to promote a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.
The exact number of participants in the initiative is currently unknown, but during its presentation, 15 countries, including Kazakhstan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Hungary, announced their participation.
