Iron Throne From 'Game of Thrones' Sold at Auction for $1.5 Million
A themed auction based on the Game of Thrones series took place in Dallas in the United States. The legendary Iron Throne went under the hammer for $1.49 million and became the most expensive lot. It is reported by the Associated Press.
The bidding for the throne lasted about 6 minutes.
The replica of the throne was made of plastic and painted with metal paint. It is identical to the serial version, as it was moulded from the original, and repeats all its details.
In total, the event raised $21 million. There were 900 lots for sale, including armour, weapons, costumes, jewellery and decorations. According to the sales results, the auction has become the second largest entertainment event of Heritage Auctions since 2011. The auction was attended by 4,500 people.
In addition to the Iron Throne, the auction featured more than 30 other lots with six-figure price tags. Jon Snow's sword, the Longclaw, was sold for $400,000, and his Night's Watch outfit went under the hammer for $337,000.
Jamie Lannister's set of black leather armour fetched $275,000, and his Royal Guard costume, including the Oathkeeper sword, went for $212,000. The armour of a Queensguard armor worn by Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane was sold for $212,500.
Daenerys Targaryen's grey suede suit was sold for $112,500, which exceeded the starting price by exactly 100 thousand. Cersei's red dress from the series finale went for $137,500, which exceeded the starting price by $122,500.
