Germany Signals Willingness to Buy U.S. Patriots for Ukraine

Germany is prepared to purchase additional Patriot air defense systems from the United States and supply them to Ukraine, CDU leader Friedrich Merz announced on Thursday during a Ukraine recovery conference in Rome, The Gaze reports, citing de.investing.
Merz revealed that he had discussed the matter last week with former U.S. President Donald Trump, asking for the delivery of Patriot systems to Ukraine.
“We are also ready to buy additional Patriot systems from the U.S. in order to provide them to Ukraine,” Merz stated at the event, where he held talks on air defense with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other senior officials.
While acknowledging that the U.S. needs some of the systems for its own defense, Merz pointed out: “They also have quite a lot of them.”
However, he clarified that no final decision had yet been made: “It is not yet fully decided whether a delivery will take place.”
As The Gaze previously reported, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States will work to persuade NATO allies to transfer Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, which urgently needs them to fend off ongoing Russian attacks.
