Official: Trump Becomes 47th President of United States
The 47th President Donald Trump was inaugurated in the United States.
He took the oath of office at the Capitol. The ceremony was broadcast by Fox 5.
Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony took place in the rotunda of the Capitol due to the cool weather in Washington. Trump repeated the text of the oath of office, as prescribed by the US Constitution, after Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, promising to uphold and defend the country's fundamental law.
Earlier, J.D. Vance took the oath of office, officially assuming the position of Vice President of the United States.
At the beginning of his speech, Donald Trump expressed his gratitude to the former presidents who attended the ceremony and addressed the American people.
‘From this day forward, our country will prosper and be respected around the world once again. We will be the envy of all nations and will no longer allow ourselves to be taken advantage of,’ Trump said after taking the oath of office.
He stressed that every day of his administration would ‘put America first’.
Trump also promised to build the strongest army the world has ever seen. ‘We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars we end, and perhaps most importantly, by the wars we never start,’ he said.
The President stressed that he wants to be a ‘peacemaker and unifier’ and that under his presidency, the United States will return to its ‘rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on earth’.
Speaking of foreign policy, Trump promised to regain control of the Panama Canal, which is ‘exploited by China,’ and to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.
In his inaugural speech, Trump also mentioned an assassination attempt that took place during a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024, when a gunshot wounded him in the ear. ‘But I felt then, and I believe even more now, that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to restore greatness to America,’ he added.
Trump made history as the second American president to serve two terms in office with a break between them. By the end of his second term, he will be 82 years old, making him the oldest president in US history.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Donald Trump on becoming president of the United States. In his post on social media platform X, Zelenskyy noted Trump's determination and stressed that Trump's ‘peace through strength’ policy ‘provides an opportunity to strengthen American leadership and achieve a long-term and just peace.’
‘This century is being shaped right now, and we must all work together to make it a great and successful century for democratic countries, not for those who want us to fail,’ he stressed.
Zelenskyy wished Trump success and expressed hope for ‘active and mutually beneficial cooperation’.
‘Together we are stronger, and we can ensure greater security, stability and economic growth for the whole world and our two countries,’ he concluded.
