President of Romania: Russia Believes That in 2-3 Months It Will Achieve a Better Peace
The Romanian leader said this in an interview with Politico.
The Gaze reports on it according to European pravda.
He believes that achieving peace in Ukraine in the short term is unrealistic, as Russia, in his words, is interested in further territorial gains.
Nicușor Dan believes that, despite pressure from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, the end of the war is still far off.
“I am more pessimistic than optimistic about the short-term prospects of reaching a peace settlement,” he said.
According to him, it appears that at this stage the Russian side does not want peace.
“The Russians believe that peace in two or three months will be better for them than peace now. Therefore, they will continue fighting—because they have made some small progress on the battlefield,” the Romanian leader shared his assessment.
Dan also emphasized that any peace in which the aggressor, in some sense, receives a reward “is not good for Europe and the future security of the world.”
“But the decision about peace lies exclusively with Ukraine. The Ukrainians have suffered so much that we cannot blame them for whatever decision they make,” the President of Romania concluded.
