Ukrainian digital operator Kyivstar opened trading on Nasdaq under the ticker KYIV for the first time, becoming the first Ukrainian company on the US stock market.

The Gaze reports on it, referring to a digital operator VEON.

VEON Ltd., a global digital operator and parent company of Ukrainian provider Kyivstar, officially opened trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange in New York on August 29. This event marked the end of a week of events dedicated to Kyivstar's listing and investment opportunities for Ukraine's recovery.

The opening ceremony, which marked Kyivstar's historic entry into the US stock market as the first Ukrainian company, was attended by Kyivstar President Oleksandr Komarov, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak, Minister of Economy Oleksiy Sobolev, as well as the VEON and Kyivstar teams, investors, and invited guests.

Notably, Former US Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo congratulated the Ukrainian company on this achievement, emphasizing that “this will unlock incredible opportunities for both Ukraine and US investors and contribute to Ukraine's reconstruction and economic resilience.”

Oleksandr Komarov, President of Kyivstar, noted that the company has become a key driver of Ukraine’s reconstruction, adding that the company seeks to promote the development of global partnerships for other Ukrainian companies, especially with the American and international business community.

“Kyivstar is privileged to serve as an example of how Ukrainian businesses combine resilience with development and growth,” he said.

Augie K Fabela II, Chairman and Founder of VEON, stated that “Kyivstar’s listing on Nasdaq under the ticker KYIV gives American investors a window into the Ukrainian economy as a whole,” highlighting that it should promote dialogue and partnerships between U.S. and Ukrainian businesses.

Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, also emphasized the historical significance of Kyivstar's listing on the American Nasdaq stock exchange.

He noted that Kyivstar's success was made possible by reforms in the field of digital communications, which simplified network construction, ensured stable operation of base stations, and created conditions for the launch of 5G and Ukraine's accession to the EU roaming zone.

“Kyivstar's historic listing on Nasdaq is a result of the freedom we have secured for the Ukrainian telecom market. Now, the Ukrainian company's shares are listed alongside Apple, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and other global giants,” he wrote.

Kyivstar serves nearly 22.4 million mobile subscribers, over 1.1 million fixed internet users, and over 13 million active digital users. The company offers a wide range of digital services: the Helsi platform for digital healthcare, the Kyivstar TV entertainment platform, and the Uklon ride-hailing service.

The company also collaborates with global technology giants and plans to launch commercial direct communication via Starlink satellites in the fourth quarter of 2025. By 2027, Kyivstar plans to invest US$1 billion in infrastructure development, digital technologies, and social projects in Ukraine.

As The Gaze informed earlier, Ukraine has successfully tested Starlink’s Direct to Cell technology, enabling smartphones to connect directly to satellites without additional equipment among the first in Europe.
