Latvian Foreign Minister Runs Riga Half Marathon to Raise Funds for Drones for Ukraine
The Latvian Foreign Minister took part in the Riga Marathon to raise funds for drones for Ukraine and covered the half-marathon distance of 21 kilometres.
She wrote about it on her X (Twitter) account.
On Sunday, Baiba Braže reported that she had covered the chosen distance and thanked everyone for their support.
"We have already raised almost 10 thousand euros. Let's make a little more effort," she wrote.
According to her, about 34 thousand people took part in the race.
On Saturday, Baiba Brazhe announced that she had registered for the 21 km course, which will be her first ever half-marathon, and will run with the number 815, the number of days Ukraine has been defending itself in a full-scale Russian war.
The drone fundraising on the Ziedot platform is organised in cooperation with the Ukrainian Embassy in Latvia.
As The Gaze previously reported, Latvia is allocating €10 million to the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine. This decision was made by the Latvian government at a closed meeting on the evening of 14 May. It is noted that the funds allocated by Latvia will be used to purchase more than 3,000 large-calibre 155 mm shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Latvian officials also reported that in addition to the purchase of ammunition, a second batch of drones is scheduled to be shipped in June as part of a coalition led by Latvia and the United Kingdom. This batch will include about 1,000 combat drones of various capabilities.
